Neill Blomkamp is making a new series of experimental short films

With his vision for Alien 5 abandoned due to Ridley Scott’s sudden desire to ram that series into the ground as hard and fast as possible, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp has had to come up with a new way to get his creative visions out into the world—at least until people start demanding a Chappie sequel. Back in April, Blomkamp asked his Twitter followers if they’d be interested in buying “experimental short films” on digital video game retailer Steam as “tests for potential full feature films,” and now Boing Boing is reporting that he’ll be doing that exact thing.

Blomkamp explained that he wants to use Steam to distribute his films so he can “have everything under one roof,” including concept art and possibly 3D assets, though he also says that some free videos will be uploaded to YouTube as well. Assuming the Steam stuff takes off, he’d also eventually want to distribute full films on the service.

You can see a teaser from Blomkamp’s Oats Studios—which was also behind those terrifying visions of Trump’s America—below.
