Netflix announces its fall stand-up specials, from Dana Carvey to Reggie Watts

By this point, Netflix has comfortably settled into its role as the new home of filmed stand-up, outflanking the old guard like HBO and Comedy Central with a steady stream of great, well-shot material from a diverse variety of voices. It’s gotten to the point that it’s almost a little boring when the streaming service announces it’s dropping another 10 hours of comedy to round out its fall release slate. “Ho-hum,” we think to ourselves. “Just another new hour of material from Dana Carvey and Reggie Watts.”

In a press release deployed today, Netflix announced eight new stand-up specials for its fall season, including Carvey’s Straight White Male, 60, his first special in eight years, and Watts’ “experimental comedy adventure” Spatial. They’re joined by sets from Joe Rogen, Gabriel Iglesias, and Carvey’s fellow SNL alums Colin Quinn and Michael Che. (Cedric The Entertainer and Russell Peters round out the list.) That’s a pretty wide span of styles for comedy fans to choose from (provided that those comedy fans don’t mind the that the entire slate—outside Iliza Shlesinger’s previously announced Confirmed Kills—is made up of dudes.)
