Netflix drops a documentary, a series, a movie, and some kids stuff for your weekend viewing pleasure

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Friday, September 15, and Saturday, September 16. All times are Eastern. Binge-watching is optional.

Top picks

Strong Island, First They Killed My Father, American Vandal (season one), Project Mc² (season five), VeggieTales In The City (season two): It’s about the most temperate time of the year, so hopefully you’ll be enjoying the outside world this weekend. But in case you need a break, have seasonal allergies, or have to recuperate from some Riot Fest after-shows, Netflix is here to help. The streaming service is dropping a whole mess of stuff today, from Angelina Jolie’s latest directorial effort to a stirring documentary to some series you can put on for the kids in case you’re still sleeping. But really, try to get outside for even a little bit.

Regular coverage

BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
Halt And Catch Fire (AMC, Saturday, 9 p.m.)

Wild card

Project Mc² (Netflix): Speaking of one of those shows above we parents might turn on for an hour or so of blessed silence: We’re not really the intended audience for Project Mc², but our kids ate up the series about tech-savvy teenage girl spies. Who are also friends! Then we found out that it features Danica McKellar—The Wonder Years’ Winnie, now a mathematician—and stresses promoting technology skills for young girls. So we’re all for it. Plus, the silence. Um, science.
