Netflix goes the Choose Your Own Adventure route with interactive kids’ series

In the olden days, we had to read books to get the thrill of choosing our own adventures. And just like it’s taken other things from our childhood and put them into TV form, Netflix is launching its own version of those customizable stories. The streaming service announced today that it’s debuting interactive kids‘ programming, beginning with a spin-off of its The Adventures Of Puss In Boots series called Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, which is available now. Another program of this type, Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile, will debut July 14.

Now, obviously this material is meant for younger viewers, but imagine if Netflix started employing this technology for their other original series. Say you’re watching House Of Cards and you get asked this question: “Do you want Frank Underwood to murder this person? Yes or no?” How about Master Of None? “Should Dev eat a plate of lasagna or a bowl of gnocchi?” The possibilities are infinite.
