Netflix grabs a hit of Chuck Lorre and Kathy Bates’ new weed sitcom

Suggesting that there really is a workplace-based sitcom out there for any given workplace you can name, Netflix has announced that it’s ordering Chuck Lorre’s marijuana comedy Disjointed to series. Originally described as “the Big Bang Theory of weed,” the show will star Oscar and Emmy-winning actress Kathy Bates as the owner and operator of a L.A. cannabis dispensary, forced to deal with her son, her three budtenders, and a “deeply troubled” security guard. Also, to quote the official Netflix press release, “All of them are more or less constantly high.”

Honestly, that sounds kind of sedate for Bates, given that she spent the last few years as a regular on American Horror Story, a show that once depicted “addiction” by having Schmidt from New Girl get anally violated with a strap-on shaped like a mining drill. (We’re doubting Disjointed will be quite so damning in its feelings on getting high.) The 20-episode order for the series represents Lorre’s first deal with the streaming service, although his old Two And A Half Men star, Ashton Kutcher, made the leap over for The Ranch earlier this year.
