Netflix has picked up Cary Fukunaga’s Maniac series
Though the project itself was only announced a few days ago, Netflix has already swooped in and picked up Maniac, a dark comedy series directed by Cary Fukunaga. The project is based on a Norwegian show about a man named Espen who is in a hospital’s psychiatric ward, and in order to hide from his harsh reality, he escapes into a fantasy world of some kind. As we reported last week, Emma Stone and Jonah Hill will star in the series, but any details about their characters haven’t been announced yet. Like all Netflix shows, Maniac has been given a straight-to-series order, and all 10 episodes of its first season will be premiering at the same (whenever that may be). This all comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which adds that Fukunaga is expected to direct all 10 of those episodes and that Netflix is currently searching for a writer.
