Netflix is already considering a Punisher spin-off

Netflix is apparently as excited as the rest of us about Jon Bernthal’s turn as The Punisher on the upcoming Daredevil season two; the streaming service is reportedly already looking into developing a spin-off centered on the gun-toting vigilante, well in advance of his March 18 debut. As reported by TV Line (and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter), the spin-off is still in “very early development,” though—i.e., nobody’s putting any serious money on the table yet.

If Netflix does pick The Punisher up, though, it would potentially be Marvel’s sixth series with the streamer; the service has already aired Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and is currently working hard on Luke Cage. The long-awaited Defenders miniseries, meanwhile, is presumably still waiting in the wings until the Iron Fist producers can think their way out of that whole “awesome white guy shows all these Asian folks how to really do martial arts” problem they’ve gotten themselves into. (The Punisher doesn’t have to worry about that kind of thing, of course; The Punisher just shoots people.)
