Netflix premieres trailer for teen murder mystery on Instagram, is so cool

So dope of Netflix, you guys, to keep their finger on the pulse of today’s youth by doing this. Okay, technically Selena Gomez is the one releasing this trailer into the world via Instagram, but she undoubtedly has Netflix’s blessing. The woman has 108 million followers, for God’s sake. That’s almost certainly more eyes on this little video than would have found it the first day via the normal YouTube release. Oh, and despite Gomez’s tendency to be more popular than most things, it’s still worth mentioning the actual contents of the video, we guess. It’s the first trailer for Thirteen Reasons Why, the new murder mystery series based on Jay Asher’s best-selling 2007 novel of the same name.

In addition to Gomez serving as producer, Spotlight director Tom McCarthy is helming the first two episodes. The shows picks up in the wake of the suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who leaves behind cassette tapes for 12 of her classmates, explaining how they contributed to her decision to end her life. So a real upper, in other words. The trailer doesn’t give us much, beyond a snippet of Hannah’s recording and a glimpse of each of the kids who receive a tape. Still, so bitchin’ of Netflix to Insta this thing, right? Hella cool. Thirteen Reasons Why premieres March 31 on Netflix.
