Netflix releases first images from Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill

We still don’t know a ton about the show, but Netflix has now released some teaser images from Maniac, a new black comedy series created by True Detective and Beasts Of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga. The show is based on a Norwegian show of the same name, and The Hollywood Reporter explains that it’s about “two strangers who find themselves caught up in a bizarre pharmaceutical trial gone awry. (In 2016, we said it was about a man in a psychiatric ward who “escapes into a fantasy world” to hide from his scary reality, so that may or may not be a spoiler now.) The two strangers are played by Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, and you can see them in some weird outfits and chairs in the images below.

Here we have our two leads, both looking rather concerned about something. They have things around their necks and neutral gray outfits, which is rarely a good sign (unless you like being experimented on).

Stone and Hill checking out some nice chairs in this one. They look comfortable, but those big science-y boxes by their heads are worrying.

Speaking of, here we have a better look at the science-y boxes, along with some fun colors. All of the pictures have a very Legion-esque vibe, but this one is especially Legion-esque.

Hey, Sally Field. What are you doing here? You seem to be having more fun than our heroes.

This man loves his old-fashioned computer. Judging by the pink glow and his white outfit, this seems to be happening in the background of whatever Sally Field is doing.

Well now this is simply too spooky. Two people walking outside? There’s definitely something darkly comedic happening here, possibly just beyond our perception.

Maniac will premiere later this year.
