Though this first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Marco Polo series doesn’t show anybody swimming with their eyes closed while calling out the famous explorer’s name, it does depict plenty of the sex and violence that people usually associate with Marco Polo. We were promised back in January that the show would would be “replete” with “martial arts, sexual intrigue, political skullduggery, and spectacular battles,” all of which seem to be present here, so this series seems to be on-track to be an entertaining—and perfectly accurate—history lesson. Marco Polo stars Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy as the eponymous Polo and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu as his love interest. The 10-episode first season of Marco Polo will be available for binge-watching on Netflix on December 12.
