Netflix renews Dear White People
Prepare to get schooled some more, because Netflix has just renewed Dear White People. According to The Hollywood Reporter, creator Justin Simien announced the season two order while at the Essence Festival on Friday. Simien adapted his own film for the acclaimed Netflix series. And, given room to breathe as a series, Dear White People proved to be hilarious, poignant, and immensely quotable. The first season ended with a(nother) protest and a cliffhanger, which Simien will use as a jumping-off point for the next 10 episodes, which are due out in 2018. “There are a lot of things that we planted in this first season that you may not even notice at first glance that culminate in that moment that I’m really excited to explore,” Simien said, after the show debuted in April.
The great cast—including Logan Browning, Brandon P. Bell, Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson, and Marque Richardson—will all return for season two. Showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser will be back to pick things up along with executive producers Stephanie Allain and Julia Lebedev. Though there’s no word on the guest directors, the first season featured episodes helmed by Nisha Ganatra, Steven Tsuchida, Tina Mabry, and Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins.
