Netflix renews Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for a third season
When Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt broke free from the clutches of its broadcast TV bunker at NBC last year, it scored two seasons of fresh air at Netflix, with the first debuting to mostly positive reviews. Now, Variety reports that the show has been picked up for a third season, three months before its second batch of episodes premieres on the streaming service. The second season is set to introduce Kimmy’s mom, and possibly a deeper dive into the lineage of Daddy’s Boy, but we don’t know much else other than co-creator Tina Fey’s remark at the winter Television Critics Association press tour that season two won’t dupe trusting viewers by taking a hard left turn into “prison sex.” It’s not really clear if that was on the table at some point, but whatever direction the show does take, hopefully it’ll include more accidental shared easter eggs with FX’s The Americans.
