Netflix’s Okja will get theatrical releases in both the U.S. and South Korea

Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-Ho’s next film—a monster story called Okja—is coming to Netflix on June 28, but in a rare move, the streaming service will actually be giving people a chance to see it in theaters. Specific details are slim, but Variety says that the movie will be getting day-and-date theatrical releases in both the U.S. and South Korea, with Next Entertainment World distributing the film overseas. That’s pretty much all we know, though, as the story doesn’t say when it’ll have this theatrical release, just that it will all be very “limited.” That makes it sound like this is being done primarily for Korean audiences, with the U.S. theatrical release some kind of bonus, but it’s hard to say until we know more.

Okja stars Tilda Swinton, Ahn Seo-hyun, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, and Paul Dano.
