Netflix's new series from Stranger Things and Arrival producers is all about superpowered teen angst 

Navigating the rocky woes of high school was a heroic feat for most of us. But doing it as a teenage girl with superpowers? Ha, good luck. Soon, Sabrina Spellman and Eleven won’t be the only young women juggling life with supernatural abilities on Netflix, though: They’ll be joined by a 15-year-old freshman in a new series about adolescence and superpowers.

According to a press release via Variety, Netflix is planning to adapt I Am Not Okay With This, a coming-of-age graphic novel from Charles Forsman. The series comes from Jonathan Entwistle, best known for his work on Channel 4 and Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World (also an adaptation of a Forsman graphic novel), Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy, playwright Christy Hall, and Arrival and The Darkest Minds producer Dan Levine. The series will be eighth episodes, but it’s unknown if will be animated or live-action—though given that the creative team’s work has largely been live-action, that does seem most likely.

The show will follow Sydney, a seemingly normal teen who discovers she has deadly telekinetic powers that she loses control of whenever she’s angry or sexually excited—pretty inconvenient for a 15-year-old. As if that wasn’t enough, she also has a secret crush on her best friend Dina and is mourning the death of her father. A series about teen angst, struggling with trauma, the confusing nature of sexuality, feeling like a freak, and learning to harness crazy powers that can hurt people? And you though high school was rough.
