New Alice Through The Looking Glass trailer feeds your head

Choosing which song to play during a movie trailer is truly one of the most under-appreciated arts in all of filmmaking. Do it well, and you end up with something everyone remembers, like that Social Network trailer with the cover of “Creep.” But if you half-ass it, you might have one of those trailers that clearly uses the music from Beetlejuice and acts like nobody will notice. Music-wise, this new trailer for Alice Through The Looking Glass is an interesting case. The people who made the trailer obviously put some work into it, because it prominently features Pink singing a cover of a reasonably famous song. But that famous song happens to be “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane—a song that’s literally about Alice In Wonderland. As far as song choices go, it’s about as on-the-nose as you can get, especially since the lyrics occasionally coincide with what’s actually happening in the shot. Basically, it’s like if that Social Network trailer featured a song about Facebook.

Alice Through The Looking Glass stars Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Michael Sheen, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, and the voice of Alan Rickman in his final film role.
