Stieg Larsson's "Millennium trilogy" series that began with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will get a fourth entry, with a new author stepping in for the late Larsson, who passed away in 2004. The series' Swedish publisher has contracted David Lagercrantz, who's not known for writing thrillers, but is still one of Sweden's most successful authors. His 2011 book, I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which was based on interviews with the popular Swedish footballer, sold 500,000 copies in its first year in print—an impressive feat for a nation of 9.5 million.
Lagercrantz also has experience working with pre-existing characters, including Alan Turing and Swedish inventor Håkan Lans. While he doesn't have any experience writing the rape-and-torture-filled prose that made Larsson's books a worldwide phenomenon, Lagercrantz started his career as a newspaper reporter, writing about what few murders do take place in Sweden.
His new addition to Larsson's series is due out in 2015, and it will be titled The Girl Who Was A Lucrative Intellectual Property [Note: It will not be titled that.] The story will continue the adventures of hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomqvist. A U.S. film adaptation of the second book in the series, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is still ostensibly in the works, following David Fincher's adaptation of the first book.
