New Coldplay album details

Pitchfork reports that the new Coldplay record will be out June 17 and will be called either Death And All His Friends (meh) or Viva La Vida (wha?) The record is produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Bjork), and Coldplay singer Chris Martin promises "no posturing or bombast," just "experimentation" and "exploration" and "integrity" and blah blah blah. (Who wants a Coldplay record without bombast?) Also, in case the potential title wasn't a tip-off, "the sights, sounds and flavours of Latin America and Spain have definitely been infused into this album," Martin says. "No maracas or castanets, but a vibrancy and colourfulness that owes much to the atmospheres of Buenos Aires and Barcelona. The effect is subtle but important." Hmm, is this what happens when a good (not great) band takes soft-rock jokes from haters too seriously? We shall see…
