New device automatically blocks annoying celebrities from your TV

Fed up with overexposed celebrities such as Charlie Sheen and Kim Kardashian, MAKE blogger Matt Richardson took a particularly high-tech approach to ensuring he would never hear their names on his TV again: He invented the “Enough Already,” a device that combs closed-captioning text for offending, user-defined keywords—be they a celebrity’s name or just a common phrase that makes you openly wish an asteroid would strike the Earth, such as “Throw me under the bus”—then responds by muting your television for 30 seconds until it’s safely passed. You can watch Richardson’s explanation of how to make your own in the video below. It’s the perfect solution for those who are frequently annoyed by the things they see on TV, and who would rather assemble a complicated device to address it than just watch something else—which is the spirit of most American invention anyway.
