New Eminem album due in June

With his 2009 album, Relapse, drawing criticism especially for its somewhat dated pop-culture references, Eminem is apparently not taking any chances on its follow-up: He announced today that Recovery will be released on June 22, a relatively quick turnaround that will hopefully ensure some au courant jokes about Avatar and Twilight make it in there. A planned sequel, Relapse 2, was scrapped in a Wednesday morning Twitter announcement, because that’s how we get our news now, and Eminem later issued a statement clarifying, “The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title." As to what fans can expect from the rapper they once mostly revered but now regard with some “please don’t make anymore fart jokes” skepticism, collaborator Just Blaze said, “The wordplay is crazy, the metaphors are crazy. He's really back on his game. He had his ups, he had his downs, he's back way, way, way up." So that’s nice. On a side note, along with Dr. Dre’s also-promised-in-2010 Detox, hip-hop is going to be positively swimming in rehab metaphors. Did Clipse and Devin The Dude take all the drugs or what?
