New Fiona Apple songs have been done "for a fucking year," says Fiona Apple
Buried deep in a report about a recent L.A. concert featuring Fiona Apple and her frequent studio cohort Jon Brion is news that Apple apparently finished her first album since 2005's Extraordinary Machine some time ago. Looking "much, much thinner—nearly skeletal" and singing "a series of very old covers," Apple responded to a request to play her new material with, "I can't remember [how to play] any of my new songs because they've been done for a fucking year." Brion quickly followed that with, "Not her fault!" which seems to imply that the record is being held up for some reason, just like Machine was. Though that doesn't make much sense, considering the acclaim and popularity Machine garnered. (Hold off your protests for now.) All we know is that the first new Fiona Apple music in a long time is in the can, and now it's just sitting there, with nobody to enjoy it. [via Grantland]
