In what’s sure to be a pleasant surprise for the pale Anglophile in your life, British art-pop act Florence And The Machine has announced the completion of its forthcoming sophomore album—or, as they’d call it in Dear Old Blighty, a “lorry.” According to Pitchfork, no U.S. release date has been set for the follow-up to the band’s 2009 debut, Lungs—though those aforementioned England-obsessives can rest assured that U.K. import editions of the record will be available Nov. 7. In the meantime, they can content themselves with a nice spot of tea and “What The Water Gave Me,” a preview track from the Paul Epworth-produced LP. As heard in this un-embeddable Vevo video (bollocks), the song is a goth-tinged droner that teases at cathartic release before finally delivering it with a Wembley Stadium-filling heft that owes a considerable amount to Florence Welch’s fellow Brits in Radiohead and Coldplay. (And, in case “What The Water Gave Me” didn’t salute the Union Jack adamantly enough, it’s also apparently inspired by the suicide of Virginia Woolf. Blimey.)
