In what will undoubtedly be a bewildering Tuesday night for Fox sitcom fans, New Girl’s Schmidt, a.k.a. Max Greenfield, will guest star on an upcoming The Mindy Project, which appears right after his show. In what is presumably a bid to entice New Girl viewers into sticking around for an extra half-hour, Greenfield has been cast in the April 22 episode as “Lee, a hot player at a bar who is up to no good,” according to E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos. That probably won’t do much to clear up the confusion, seeing as Schmidt himself is kind of a player up to no good.
The Mindy Project has been no stranger to stunt casting, but the Greenfield appearance may turn out to be especially savvy, as New Girl is on a bit of a high right now after attaining its best ratings ever for its post-Super Bowl episode. And from here it just seems like a short step to a Happy Endings mini-reunion with New Girl’s Damon Wayans Jr. and The Mindy Project’s Adam Pally, right?
