New Mortal Kombat takes video game violence to new, ridiculous levels

Ah, the 90's, when Beverly Hills: 90210 wasn't a punchline and gamers had to enter a code just to get the bloody fatalities on the home console version of the original Mortal Kombat, one of the games that spurred the development of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. But 18 years after the original MK found its way into living rooms across the nation under Mom's wary eye, the newest incarnation of the fighting game franchise (which we quite liked) has taken the violence to new absurd, Evil Dead levels. And thanks to the Internet, you can see all its comical gore—like ripping off your opponent's leg and beating him to death with it—for free without a cheat code or fear of Mom seeing. Ebert said video games aren't art, but there's no other word to describe the new, inventive methods of killing portrayed in the video below.
