New pilots for Turner networks include a remake of Dallas
ComingSoon.net has unveiled a new batch of pilots ordered by TBS and TNT. And while that includes a bunch of not-so-exciting-sounding procedurals, it also includes a remake of Dallas, a nighttime soap opera that became a pop-culture sensation in the late 1970s (and, to a lesser extent, the early '80s). So what's the deal? Per ComingSoon:
The story focuses on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers JR and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance.
That sounds like a straight-up remake rather than a Star Trek/90210-style next-generation continuation, even though most of the original cast is still kicking around and likely in need of work. (When's the last time you saw Charlene Tilton in anything?)
Incidentally, this isn't the first talk of a Dallas revival in recent years. A big-screen version starring John Travolta as J.R. had trouble getting off the ground and now seems permanently stalled.
And now… pointless nostalgia!
