New Sisters trailer knows you’re probably gonna go see Star Wars instead

Look, Sisters knows what you’re going to be up to on December 18—either seeing Star Wars, standing in line to see Star Wars, or wondering aloud why people won’t just shut up about goddammned Star Wars already. Hoping to tap into that coveted, “Christ, we get it” demographic, the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler-starring comedy has released a new trailer aping the rhythms of one of those breathlessly wondrous The Force Awakens featurettes, the ones that are always talking about how life-changing the movie with the yodeling space bear and the ambiguously gendered soccer ball is going to be.

Full of semi-real backstage footage and faux-British accents (“to cover our buzz,” Fey drunkenly notes), the trailer does everything it can in its futile bid to make the new film—the tale of two adult sisters who throw a debauched party in their parents’ home—a viable alternative to the oncoming galactic juggernaut. Featuring George Takei, Maya Rudolph’s eventually-pretty-good Chewbacca, and a self-deprecating hashtag (#YouCanSeeThemBoth, chanted in a very Liz Lemon rush by Fey), the video does everything short of posting screenshots of sold-out Fandango pages for The Force Awakens in its desperately charming efforts to get someone to come hang out and see what it has to offer.
