New software can make actors appear fat or skinny
Good news for Eddie Murphy: German scientists have created software that can realistically alter body size and shape, allowing actors to appear heavier or thinner without resorting to latex or intense workout regimes. According to the developers, this will also save advertisers money, because they won’t be forced to find different actors to “account for standards of beauty… across cultures”—something that we weren’t aware was an issue, but apparently not every country prefers its women to carry 75 percent of their body weight in their mammary glands. Even better, actors will no longer be forced to drastically alter their appearance for a role—as when Robert De Niro packed on the pounds for Raging Bull or Christian Bale took them off for The Machinist—which makes them all a bunch of fakes. Fakes!
