New streaming series Bajillion Dollar Properties is as niche as they come

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Thursday, March 17. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Bajillion Dollar Properties (Seeso): This brand semi-improvised comedy from creator Kulap Vilaysac is tailor made for a specific audience. It satirizes wealthy real estate reality TV (most specifically Million Dollar Listing) while lampooning L.A. culture in general. Thankfully, even those not completely familiar with the show’s reference points will likely be won over by its cast: Paul F. Tompkins plays a wealthy mogul named Dean Rosedragon who manages a team of ruthless real estate agents at Beverly Hill’s Platinum Realty. That premise means the likes of Adam Scott, Jason Mantzoukas, Cameron Esposito, Nick Kroll, Patton Oswalt, Gillian Jacobs, and Scott Aukerman can stop by as buyers, sellers, and another real estate-adjacent professionals. In her pre-air review, Emily L. Stephens writes, “Bajillion Dollar Properties speaks the language of reality TV with uncanny ease, not just in the histrionics of the ensemble as they’re pitted against each other, but in the pitch-perfect deployment of effects that depict the dynamics at play.” To see the whole season, viewers will have to subscribe to Seeso—NBC Universal’s comedy-centric streaming platform. But, thankfully, the first episode is available for free right now on YouTube, and Seeso has the first two episodes up for free as well.

Also noted

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC, 10 p.m.): It’s only March, but there are already a a whole bunch of season finales airing tonight, starting with the conclusion of How To Get Away With Murder. After a fairly uneven season, Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya has found a lot to like in the past two episodes—especially last week’s penultimate entry, which she called “a highlight of the season.” As she noted in her review, it will be hard for the season finale to top that emotional episode—but that surely won’t stop HTGAWM from trying! Tonight Annalise deals with the chaos around her, Hank reflects on his sins, and Wes finally learns the truth about his past.

Colony (USA, 10 p.m.): Colony also reaches its season finale, but the fact that it’s already been renewed for a second season means fans don’t have to worry too much about the show wrapping up everything tonight. The L.A. bloc is placed on lockdown after the Resistance kidnaps a high-value target. Here’s hoping Sawyer and Lori both make it through unscathed.

Workaholics (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): Workaholics’ season finale, meanwhile, sounds just a little less stressful than Colony’s. In “The Nuttin’ Professor,” the guys set off on a quest for epic porn. Dennis Perkins thinks this finally proves it: We truly are living in an era of Peak TV.

Idiotsitter (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): And finally, on the Idiotsitter season finale, Gene takes her GED test and Billie tries to become a college professor. Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya hopes that neither of them achieves their dreams because she would like this excellent new comedy to continue for a long, long time.

Elsewhere in TV Club

In addition to Emily L. Stephen’s pre-air review of Bajillion Dollar Properties, we’ve also got an interview with the show’s creator, Kulap Vilaysack. She chats with us about her love of real estate reality TV and the real-life stress of buying and selling property.

Elsewhere, we also chat with Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch about his upcoming movie The Bronze, his career ambitions, and farting.

What else is on?

Teen Titans Go! (Cartoon Network, 6 p.m.): While most of TV has apparently decided to ignore the fact that today is St. Patrick’s Day, Teen Titans Go! is embracing the holiday. After the Titans fall prey to a St. Patrick’s Day curse, they must travel to the end of a rainbow to find the cure.

You, Me, And The Apocalypse (NBC, 8 p.m.): You, Me, And The Apocalypse barrels towards its finale with the third-to-last episode. Jamie and Ariel face uncertainty while Father Jude takes a “daring stand” against the Vatican.

American Idol (Fox, 8 p.m.): American Idol reveals its top five contestants for the final time. All 17 people who still watch American Idol will be thrilled.

Chopped (Food Network, 8 p.m.): We just want to make sure everyone knows that tonight’s episode of Chopped is called “The Bold And The Baconful.” Listen, we get that coming up with puns is hard, but this might just be a step too far, Chopped. Or should we say, a step too char.

Top Chef (Bravo 9 p.m.): Meanwhile on another cooking-themed reality show: Top Chef crowns a winner! But first, the chefs must prepare “the meal of their lives” for their mentors. We hope they do so while singing “Time Of My Life” and reenacting the Dirty Dancing dance.

The Real World (MTV, 10 p.m.): Almost unbelievably, The Real World begins its 31st season tonight. The first day in the house is “wild” as several roommates develop sexual tension and another roommate pisses everyone off. It’s good to see that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Shades Of Blues (NBC, 10 p.m.): It’s the day of the heist! Harlee tries to negotiate immunity for the crew, Miguel discovers her secret, and things go terribly wrong.

Finian’s Rainbow (TCM, 5:30 p.m.): Since very few TV shows seem interested in marking St. Patrick’s Day, we’re recommending two Irish-themed movies to make up for it. First up, a 1968 musical about a lovable thief who is being chased by a leprechaun…

Leprechaun’s Revenge (SyFy, 11 p.m.): …Followed by a made-for-TV horror movie with roughly the same plot description. Billy Zane is a local sheriff who must protect his town after his daughter accidentally unleashes a bloodthirsty leprechaun.
