In a move that's sure to ruffle no feathers and stir zero passions, the Sundance Channel is developing Cold Dead Hands, a drama about a fictional head of the National Rifle Association. Having already found success with Rectify, Top Of The Lake, and The Returned, the network hopes to continue following sister network AMC into the scripted programming promised land, and possibly hopes AMC viewers will read the title Cold Dead Hands and think it's another zombie show.
Under The Dome writer and former L.A. Times staffer Scott Gold is writing the show, which promises to take the contentious issue of gun control head on. So, either the show will ask probing questions as to why the United States has a much higher rate of gun violence than other industrialized nations, and why it's become so politically difficult to suggest even the mildest of gun control measures, or it will be about how guns are wonderful and safe and our God-given right, and everyone should own several—as meanwhile, a large sack full of $100 bills arrives on the Sundance Channel's doorstep, with your Congressman's name crossed out and "Scott Gold" hastily written in its place.
