New teaser for American Crime Story shows the scene of an American crime

After last night’s premiere of American Horror Story: Hotel—which, in addition to a whole bunch of senseless violence, had the nerve to play “Hotel California” over a montage of scenes literally set in an evil hotel in California—the world is holding its breath to see just how hard Ryan Murphy will hit viewers over the head in his upcoming American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson series. If this new teaser is anything to go by, it might actually be a surprisingly small amount. Maybe Murphy has been saving all of his tact for this project?

The whole thing is very simple, and it might even seem peaceful to a viewer who is unfamiliar with the O.J. Simpson case. It opens on a seemingly tranquil street in the middle of the night, with the silence only broken when a worried-looking dog (can dogs look worried?) walks out from behind a gate and lets out a couple of nervous barks. Why is the dog so concerned? Well, we don’t want to spoil one of the most famous murder cases in American history, so you’ll have to wait until American Crime Story premieres on FX in 2016 to find out.
