New Terminator sequel on the way—now with more 3D animation and way less violence

Another Terminator sequel is currently in development, one that hopes to rescue the faltering franchise from the diminished returns of Terminator Salvation and The Sarah Connor Chronicles by forgoing the flashy special effects, action sequences, and memorable performances that made the original films such big hits and just turning the whole thing into a cartoon: According to a press release sent out yesterday from Hannover House, the 3D animated feature film Terminator 3000 is currently in the pre-production phase, with shooting scheduled to begin in January. And while zero plot details have been announced, it does promise that it will be “based on the characters and situations introduced in the original Terminator feature,” and even better, that “the writers and production team have a stated goal of minimizing violence in order to obtain a PG-13 level of material.” Of course, Terminator Salvation managed to squeak by with a PG-13 without sacrificing too much in the way of explosions, but it’s always reassuring when the makers of a post-apocalyptic war movie full of killer robots announce that they’ve overtly set out to create something that’s not too violent.
