New trailer for Pixar’s Coco goes deeper into the Land Of The Dead

The first teaser for the new Pixar film Coco was basically a two-minute movie, telling a story about a boy who likes to play guitar and accidentally finds himself transported into the Land Of The Dead. This new trailer loses a bit of style points by resorting to a traditional narrator for the setup, but it does feature a deeper glimpse into the place where dead people live (so to speak), showing some kind of dead train station, an office where dead families are reunited, and a dead checkpoint between the living world and the dead one—along with a solid “jaw drop” gag. It all still looks a bit too reminiscent of the classic adventure game Grim Fandango, but the vast majority of moviegoers have probably never heard of that game anyway.

Coco stars Benjamin Bratt, Gael García Bernal, and newcomer Anthony Gonzalez. It was directed by Toy Story 3’s Lee Unkrich and Monsters University’s Adrian Molina, and it will be in theaters on November 22 (which should give you plenty of time to play Grim Fandango).
