New Warcraft posters show the characters who will be crafting war
Warcraft is so popular in the gaming world—and has been for decades—that it always seemed inevitable that someone would make it into a movie. However, in order to do justice to the grandiose scope of the games, computer-generated animation had to get to a point where monstrous orcs and stylishly armored humans fighting each other on resource-filled battlefields would look believable. Now Legendary Pictures and director Duncan Jones are hard at work on achieving that level of CG wonder, and after revealing the full cast and some vague plot details back in November, they’re finally giving us a proper look at two of the movie’s most important characters with a pair of Comic-Con posters: Travis Fimmel’s human leader Anduin Lothar, and Toby Kebbel’s orc president Durotan.
Fimmel (who stars on Vikings) is a stoic, long-haired human guy on his poster, accidentally dropping some sand and standing with his back to a huge army of soldiers who are all probably thinking something stupid like “I’d rather be sailing.” He looks a little sad, probably because he dropped all of that sand.
There’s nothing stoic on Kebbel’s poster, though. He’s just standing there—behind a layer of computer magic—in full orc regalia, staring right over your shoulder. What’s he looking at? Probably some humans he wants to kill that are right behind you.
You’ll notice that neither of these posters lays out which side is good and which side is bad, unless you have a pro-human bias. That fits with comments that Jones has made about how this movie will show the conflict from both points of view. According to IGN, a proper trailer will be released in November, and Warcraft is set to hit theaters on June 10, 2016.
