New, way more serious MTV Movie Awards only nominated Twilight for like two things
Last week it was revealed that the MTV Movie Awards had become embarrassed that the once-esteemed ceremony honoring cinema's cutest boys and girls had been made into a mockery by Twilight's approximate 20-year winning streak, and that it was seeking new ways to "class up its act" by installing an actual voting "academy"—a body of industry panels who would choose a preliminary group of cute boys and girls before turning them loose to the online electorate. And as you can see by today's just-released nominations, it's very serious now: Twilight is only up for a fourth run at Best Kiss and also Movie Of The Year, rather than being awkwardly shoehorned into every single category by Internet-savvy teens maximizing the number of times they see Robert Pattinson on stage. And its once-ubiquitous presence has been replaced by far more sophisticated fare like The Hunger Games, which proves that the MTV Movie Awards has finally outgrown Twilight, which is totally dumb now. Oh, you're still into Twilight? Um, gross.
The Hunger Games dominates just about every category save "Best On-Screen Dirtbag" and "Best Gut-Wrenching Performance," two new categories intended to replace scrapped, sillier fare like "Best Scared-As-Shit Performance"—though the former seems specifically engineered to create a Horrible Bosses showdown between Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell, while the latter is a strange jumble of action scenes, gory violence, and people shitting themselves or eating shit. Even Breaking Dawn, which has a literally gut-wrenching scene, somehow didn't qualify. The integrity of "Best Gut-Wrenching Performance" is slightly compromised by such arbitrary, apples-and-oranges-and-shit comparisons, is what we're saying, and it would do well in future ceremonies to limit itself to either people getting shot in the dick or shitting themselves.
