New Wonder Woman set photos are full of light and color

Among the two or three things about Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice that were not a total bummer was Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman. While the character didn’t have many defensible reasons for existing in the film, she wound up being a lot of fans’ favorite part of the film, possibly because Zack Snyder didn’t care enough about the Amazon princess to do much with her. As such, she remains relatively untainted, though Snyder did have a hand in the new film’s story. But we can all continue to hold out hope that her standalone film will be more distracting than punishing next summer. These newly released Wonder Woman set photos from Entertainment Weekly don’t give away much in the way of tone, but the fact that they’re not simply a haze of murk and shadow can be taken as a positive sign.

Here, we get a slightly better look at the wrought iron breastplate that serves as Wonder Woman’s costume.

Chris Pine is seen above as Steve Trevor, the military officer and love interest of the titular immortal demigoddess. As you can tell from his costume, this is a period film, set during the first World War. Confusingly enough, though, Gadot’s costume seems to place this scene outside the gates of the Elven city of Rivendell in Middle Earth.

Director Patty Jenkins, pictured above, is probably best known for the 2003 film Monster and the 2011 pilot episode of AMC’s The Killing. With that kind of a track record, how can this movie not be a romp?

Wonder Woman is scheduled to hit theaters until June 2, giving everyone’s BVS-induced PTSD ample time to subside.
