News of film in troubled times: Stone, Shrek, Live Earth

Take that, would-be car/actual bombers: You couldn't stop the British from boosting Shrek at the UK box office this weekend, despite heightened security concerns. (Variety)

It seems many Americans have a hard enough time digesting Oliver Stone, but he's still part of the "Great Satan" of the West—which means he doesn't get to interview Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Stone's reply: "I wish the Iranian people well, and only hope their experience with an inept, rigid ideologue president goes better than ours." (Associated Press)

Broadcasters are already anticipating that 2 billion people will watch the upcoming Live Earth concerts, but for those of you who miss it, a documentary is planned. (Hollywood Reporter, Variety)
