Nick Cassavetes no longer directing John Gotti biopic
According to Variety, director Nick Cassavetes has bowed out of Gotti: Three Generations, citing “scheduling conflicts” with his indie drama Yellow—a project that started shooting early last fall before Cassavetes was even brought on board, and as The Playlist points out, likely wrapped already, suggesting there may be some other reason that Cassavetes wanted out of his contract. Certainly there’s plenty of family pressure surrounding the film, and it’s already received an unusual amount of early press after casting John Travolta as late mafia don John Gotti then bringing Joe Pesci out of his self-imposed retirement to play Gambino capo Anthony Ruggiero. Of course, most of that attention has been focused on Lindsay Lohan, who’s been in talks to play Victoria Gotti, a decision that seems to have been made primarily by producer Marc Fiore and Gotti herself, so we wouldn’t blame Cassavetes for feeling like the film was slipping away from him. The search is now on for a new director who’s cool working with the mob, the Church of Scientology, a cranky Joe Pesci, and Lindsay Lohan. Should be volunteers any minute.
