Scoring Nick Offerman to be a spokesperson for your scotch whisky portfolio has the feel of both marketing coup and head-smackingly obvious marriage of convenience. His character on Parks And Recreation, Ron Swanson, is a noted fan of Lagavulin (inspired by Offerman’s own tastes), so it’s only natural that beverage multinational Diageo would secure Offerman’s talents for their My Tales Of Whisky series, letting the comedian play off his stern, whisky-loving persona in a series of videos, including last winter’s “Nick Offerman’s Yule Log.” Their latest, “Nick Offerman’s ‘Father’s Day’” features the comedian and his dad sharing an intimate, animated conversation over an afternoon of fishing.
Sure, it’s another play off of Offerman’s “stoic, manly, whisky-loving wood-worker” persona, but that’s part of the charm, and featuring his real father is a nice touch.
Of the elder Offerman, Nick told Mashable:
Working with my Dad (aka my hero) was a sincere honor and a treat—especially since all we had to do was go fishing, And if people have enjoyed my stoic expressions, then I expect they’re about to have their hats fly off when they lay eyes on the face of the august edifice from whence I sprung.
