Nick Offerman voices Kiki, an American bulldog, in the latest edition of Heavy Petting
In previous editions of Heavy Petting—the new series on Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls website that has comedians and actors providing voices to adoptable dogs—we’ve met Madison, an intellectual terrier mix voiced by Aubrey Plaza, and Bart, a skateboarding mixed breed who sounds like John Mulaney.
Now, Poehler’s former Parks And Recreation co-star Nick Offerman is the voice of Kiki, a 4-year-old American bulldog. (And yes, Offerman deadpanning about being named Kiki is as weirdly funny as you’re imagining it to be.)
Kiki is a very proud of being an American bulldog, as opposed to a British or French one, and loves the outdoors, because “you just gotta get out there and smell the roses, mostly to figure out which one of your buddies peed on ’em.” He’s not a “fancy dog” with “fancy training,” but does know “basic manners, and can keep it together around company,” which is for sure more than you can say for a lot of people. Most importantly, he wants you to know that he’s a happy dog; his lips just do that frown thing on their own.
