Nickelodeon is actually making that Avengers-style Nicktoons movie
That scene in The Avengers when the Hulk shows up in New York and the whole team is together for the first time is, arguably, one of the most iconic cinematic moments of the last decade. It’s the fulfillment of a promise made years earlier in the Iron Man movie, and it’s the sort of thing that generations of comic book nerds probably never thought they’d get to see. Now, Nickelodeon is officially moving forward with its plan to give ’90s kids something similar, but instead of Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow facing an alien invasion, it’ll be Tommy Pickles, Norbert Beaver, and Eliza Thornberry.
In other words, Nickelodeon and Paramount are actually going to make that Avengers-style Nicktoons movie that we reported on back in September, and Deadline says that it’s going to be directed by Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess. Deadline specifically compares it to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so it’s not clear if the movie will actually be about these characters teaming up to fight some evil force, or if they’ll just hang out in the background while a Bob Hoskins-like figure does his thing. But the report confirms that—at the very least—Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters, and The Angry Beavers are going to be involved. That being said, ’90s kids would probably stop rejoicing and revolt if characters from Hey Arnold!, The Wild Thornberrys, and Doug don’t show up.
