Nicki Minaj cancels tour, definitely still isn't mad
Nicki Minaj is none too pleased about her new album, Queen, not usurping Travis Scott’s Astroworld atop the Billboard charts. Now, in events that are definitely in no way related, Minaj has canceled the North American leg of her NickiHndrxx Tour, which was slated to kick off in September.
According to Rolling Stone, Minaj “has decided to reevaluate elements of production on the NickiHndrxx Tour.” Later, the pop star took to Twitter, noting that the album’s two-month delay impacted the tour’s rehearsal time. “I just simply don’t have the time to rehearse and be on the road in time to give you guys the level of a show I need to give. Jamie King and I are working tirelessly to give you guys the best show of my life, and I fully apologize, but it’ll be worth it.”
Page Six disputes the reasoning, however, quoting a Live Nation source who credits low ticket sales for the cancellation. “Nicki’s tour could be the most disappointing ticket sales of the year for any artist,” they said, though, considering the source, it’s best to take this one with a grain of salt.
In any case, the tour will launch this February in Germany, with the North American leg being rescheduled for May. Due to scheduling conflicts, Future won’t perform at those shows, but we’re guessing convicted sex offender 6ix9ine—who was added to the tour earlier this summer—will be.
The cancellation is the latest development in a whirlwind week for Minaj. After her initial attacks on Scott and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, she took to her Beats 1 radio show to double down. “What we’re not gonna do is have that Auto-Tune man selling fucking sweaters telling you he sold half a million albums, because he fucking didn’t,” she said, as quoted by Pitchfork. “You stupid fuck. You got your fucking homeboy talking for you and you got your girlfriend selling tour passes. Stop it. Knock it the fuck off.”
She’s also taken to calling herself “Harriet Tubman,” but it’s all good because she definitely isn’t mad. She’s laughing. Really.
