Nicki Minaj gives a shout-out to Harambe on “The Pinkprint Freestyle”
Over the weekend Nicki Minaj released a new song, “The Pinkprint Freestyle,” a sprawling, nearly 6-minute long track which unfolds at a slow pace. But this is Minaj we’re talking about, so it’s also funny and packed with attention-grabbing bits. The most topical lyric—you know, the one that makes headline writers’ lives easy?—is her hat tip to Harambe, the gorilla shot at the Cincinnati Zoo who has since become a meme. She raps: “I’m draggin’ these hoes like Harambe did the kid.” (Zoo employees are probably none to pleased about a world renowned musician fanning the flames of Harambe jokes.) Later in the song, Minaj takes us all the way back to 2007 by singing the chorus of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes.” Listen to Minaj’s latest below:
