Nicki Minaj to keep showing everyone how it’s done, promises new mixtape
Although she’s racked up a ton of awards, chart-topping hits, and even a semi-autobiographical TV series, Nicki Minaj isn’t about to rest on her laurels. In an interview with Billboard, the multi-hyphenate, who will soon be seen in Barbershop: The Next Cut, spoke at length about how much more of everything she wants to do, including acting, rapping, and speaking out about the racial disparity in the criminal justice system.
Minaj is currently busy with pre-production of her show and, as we previously speculated, will indeed provide voice-over narration. The wide-ranging interview also saw her discuss her circle back to her mixtape roots. Minaj says her early work set her on “everybody’s beat,” and she was “ruthless” in her pursuit of success. The PinkPrint rapper described the obligation she feels to releasing a follow-up to 2009’s Beam Me Up Scotty: “I have to set an example for female rappers. I’m at the top of that food chain, and it’s important to lead by example.”
