Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood plan a terrible heist in this trailer for The Trust

For the majority of this trailer for The Trust—a new film from relative newcomers Alex and Benjamin Brewer—the movie comes across as an off-beat comedy with some dark-ish dramatic edges. It’s like someone telling a joke while something scary happens next door. You might laugh, but you’ll also have a vague sense of unease. The Trust flips it by the end of the trailer, though, and it suggests that the movie itself will be significantly darker than the great “you know the drill” gag lets on, but montages of people getting shot tend to do that.

The Trust stars Nicolas Cage, Elijah Wood, and Jerry Lewis, it’ll debut on DirecTV on April 14, and then it’ll hit other VOD services and regular theaters on May 13.
