Nicolas Cage goes down with the ship in this trailer for USS Indianapolis: Men Of Courage

In July of 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine after delivering parts for Little Boy, the atomic bomb that would later be dropped on Hiroshima. The Indianapolis’ story has already been told in one of the most famous scenes in movie history, but that scene lacked the one thing that makes every story better: Nicolas Cage. Luckily, director Mario Van Peebles recognized this error and is making up for it with USS Indianapolis: Men Of Courage, a movie starring Cage as the man in command of that doomed ship. This trailer for USS Indianapolis (which comes from Variety) actually gives a pretty comprehensive recap of the whole story, but spoilers probably aren’t a big deal when anyone who knows anything about the Indianapolis can tell you that 1,100 men went in the water, 316 men came out, and the sharks took the rest. Anyway, they delivered the bomb.

USS Indianapolis: Men Of Courage will be released on May 27.
