Niecy Nash to help invent horror-comedy on Scream Queens
We’ve known for a while now that Scream Queens, the new Ryan Murphy show that is going to invent a brand new genre of entertainment called “horror-comedy” (can he even do that? Is that even possible?), has some serious horror actor bona fides in Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts. It also fulfilled Murphy’s fetishistic “the hell is this pop singer doing here?” slot with Ariana Grande. Now it looks like Murphy is moving to beef up the comedy side of the equation, as E! reports that Reno 911! and Getting On star Niecy Nash has joined the cast of the upcoming Fox series.
Nash will play the role of Denise, a “private security guard who kicks major butt.” In addition to there being absolutely no way Murphy didn’t come up with that description himself, likely writing it in birthday cake-flavored frosting on the call sheet, this seems like further evidence that the slasher comedy is planning to stack the deck with as many recognizable faces as possible. That way, when they inevitably start dropping like flies, at least it won’t be painfully obvious who the killer is, like how the biggest guest star on SVU always turns out to be the creepy child killer. And with a deep roster that now includes Lea Michele, Joe Manganiello, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Skyler Samuels, and Nick Jonas, the show has many options for a surprise villain. Though the real villain, as always, will be Ryan Murphy’s attention span.
