Nightcrawler’s Riz Ahmed joins the new Bourne movie
Riz Ahmed has been steadily making his way into blockbuster franchise territory: Earlier this year, he was cast in Star Wars: Rogue One (though not as a Jedi), and now Variety reports that the breakout Nightcrawler star has joined the cast of the upcoming Bourne sequel. Production on the film has already begun in Budapest, and will see a reunion for Jason Bourne originator Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, who helmed two of the first three entries in the series. Julia Stiles is also set to reprise her role as Nicky Parsons.
Of course, Ahmed won’t be the only Bourne novice on set—he’s joined by Vincent Cassel, Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Tommy Lee Jones (who’s hardly a novice to anything these days), and Scott Shepherd. But Jeremy Renner won’t return in any capacity (which is for the best). The title of the movie hasn’t been released yet, but since the previous entries have been the namesakes of the source books, we can probably assume this fifth film will be called The Bourne Betrayal (because that’s the title of the fifth book in the series).
