Nightwing wows crowds and saves lives in an exclusive DC preview

After spending some time as a secret agent, Dick Grayson is back in his black and blue tights in the new Nightwing series, returning to his old secret identity to take down the villainous Parliament of Owls from the inside. Writer Tim Seeley has a deep understanding of the lead hero from his time as co-writer on Grayson, and the strength of his Nightwing: Rebirth one-shot earlier this month proves that he’s a smart choice to continue Dick’s story. That one-shot did excellent work bringing all the different aspects of Dick’s character and backstory together into one cohesive narrative, and now that the foundation for the new series has been set, it’s time for Dick to quite literally jump into action.

This preview of this week’s Nightwing #1 delivers dynamic spectacle as Dick swings to the rescue of an assassination target at the opera, and the creative team builds to that moment by beginning with a short scene creating a tense, foreboding atmosphere. Javi Fernandez’s detailed artwork immerses the reader in the environments and brings thrilling speed and force to the fighting, and his high-contrast line work blends well with Chris Sotomayor’s bold color palette. The coloring is reminiscent of FCO Plascencia’s work on Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman, and the bright neon hues add even more energy to the already lively artwork. Dick Grayson’s life isn’t slowing down, and this creative team has what it takes to send Nightwing soaring to new heights.
