Nikki Sixx really wishes he hadn't talked about that sexual assault story in The Dirt
As reported by Rolling Stone, Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx is trying to walk back a particularly awful anecdote that he told in the memoir The Dirt back in 2000. The incident in question involved Sixx having sex with a woman in a closet at the height of Mötley Crüe’s outrageous party days, and as he told The Dirt co-author Neil Strauss, he told her at one point that he had to go to the bathroom and then tricked her into having sex with bandmate Tommy Lee in his place when he returned. The next morning, the woman called Sixx and told him that she had been raped, but Sixx was “relieved” when she said that it had happened when she was hitchhiking home—and not that she had realized what he had done. Still, Sixx said in the book that it made him realize that he had “probably gone too far” and that he “pretty much” had raped her because he had been living in a “zone” where “consequences did not exist” at the time.
The reason this story is resurfacing is that Netflix is set to release its adaptation of The Dirt at the end of this month, and Sixx is now saying that he not only doesn’t remember this ever happening, but he doesn’t even remember telling Strauss about it for the book. Sixx explained to Rolling Stone that he went to rehab the year after the book came out, and he now wishes that he had done the interviews after getting sober. In a statement, he says that the story in question is “possibly greatly embellished” or he even could have “made it up,” but either way he says “those words were irresponsible” and it’s one of many things he says he regrets from the book and his infamously destructive lifestyle.
“There is a lot of horrible behavior in the book,” Sixx says, adding, “What I can tell you is that we all lived to regret a lot and learned from it. We own up to all our behavior that hurt ourselves, our families, friends, and any innocents around us.” Netflix’s movie, meanwhile, was made with the full support of Mötley Crüe, so it probably won’t spend too much time on awful sexual assault stories like this, whether they’re embellished or not.
