Nine Inch Nails a "free agent"
Trent Reznor "waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement" on Nine Inch Nails website yesterday: his band is no longer under contract to a record label. Will NIN follow Radiohead's lead and release its own albums? Reznor doesn't say—he did just get free after all—but he doesn't appear too upset about not having a label. He writes: "I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed." Who knows? Maybe he'll put out a record next week. Maybe he'll go body-surfing. Dude is self-employed now.
