No Doubt yanks "Looking Hot" video after it upsets some Native Americans

No Doubt has pulled its latest video after it drew the ire of Native American groups. “Looking Hot” features Gwen Stefani, one of the blondest women alive, dressed up like a Native American maiden, cavorting on horseback, and hanging out in teepees. Other members of the group are dressed as both Native Americans and cowboys.

Though it doesn’t seem any more sensational than any of Stefani’s previous homages to Asian culture or No Doubt’s aping of Jamaican culture, the clip has drawn a number of angry comments on YouTube, a place that only the sanest people go to air their grievances.

Saturday, the band yanked the video from all official channels and put a statement on its website saying that, “as a multi-racial band our foundation is build upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures.” The band says it never meant to hurt anyone, saying it “consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California.” All the same, since some people got mad, the band is backing down, saying, “being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.”
